Justice Ginsburg - Brooklyn - Statues For Equality - Project and series by Gillie and Marc

Former US Supreme Court the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Described as:

  • The great equaliser.

  • A reformer and strategist.

  • A steely mind.

  • Soft spoken delivery.

  • Courageous.

  • Alliance builder.

  • A trailblazer. A champion. A liberal firebrand.

  • A legacy and life worth celebrating.

Coaching questions:

  • What lessons come to mind for you from her work and style?

  • What does her story say about women's leadership?

  • Should all leadership be about reform or leaving a legacy?

  • Do you agree with her when she said: "Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”

  • Reflect on: “Reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade.” and “You can disagree without being disagreeable.”

  • Why is this important: “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

  • How would you put into practice: “I’m a very strong believer in listening and learning from others.”

  • Consider: “If you want to be a true professional, do something outside yourself.” and “Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life.”

  • Is a respectful “I Dissent” an effective way to add a different viewpoint or to counter groupthink?

  • What happens when people don't express their dissenting views, opinions or knowledge?

  • Is pushing for a consensus view a sign of collegiality or a sign of differing voices not being articulated, listened to or understood?

  • Is too much uniformity in group or committee composition counter to effective governance or new ideas or good problem solving?

  • What is the best way to deal with the 'messiness' of dissenting opinions or diverse thinking?
